Veterinary charity volunteer is CosmoGIRL! of the Month

Sixteen year old Helen Rowland, who was ‘highly commended’ in the PDSA National Volunteer Awards, has been named CosmoGIRL! of the Month.
Bella Battle, CosmoGIRL! editorial assistant said: “CosmoGIRL! encourages teens to be the best they can be and we pick one inspirational reader per issue to be our CosmoGIRL! of the Month. Helen Rowland struck us as just the kind of girl we like to feature passionate, generous and determined.
“We were so impressed with the amount of free time she has given to volunteer at the PDSA shop in Cheltenham and wish her all the best for the career working with animals she has set her heart on.”

Helen, who hopes to become a veterinary nurse, said: “I love volunteering for the PDSA. I’ve made new friends and enjoy knowing that I’m helping pets in need of vets.”
Helen was highly commended after being nominated by PDSA shop manager Lareina Pate. Although she is studying for A levels, Helen volunteers at the shop every Wednesday and Saturday. Her tasks include serving customers, tidying stock and supporting other volunteers.
Helen is featured in CosmoGIRL! in issue 6 which goes on sale April 28 2005.
