Howard Lake | 14 January 2005 | News

Action Against Hunger has raised $305,000 online in one week after launching its tsunami relief appeal. This is nearly 100 times the amount it had raised online the previous week.

The figures are reported by Vinay Bhagat, Chairman of the Texas-baesd online fundraising company Convio Inc, writing in onPhilanthropy.com’s email newsletter.

Bhagat puts Action Against Hunger’s success in perspective: “the $305,000 figure represents 65 percent of all online funds that Action Against Hunger raised in 2004.”

The non-profit is not large: it has an annual operating budget of approximately $10 million.

Bhagat adds that almost all of the donations came from individuals who were new to the organisation.
