M&S wins Company of the Year at BiTC Awards
Marks & Spencer has been named Company of the Year at the Business in the Community Awards for Excellence 2004.
M&S bosses won a brief reprieve from the pressure of Philip Green’s anticipated offer for the company with recognition for the retailer’s approach to Corporate Social Responsibility. The Company of the Year award was made in recognition of the commitment of M&S to CSR.
The company has received recognition from Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and the Marine Conservation Society for its policies on GM foods, pesticide reduction and sourcing of fish. As a result M&S has been named as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index’s most sustainable retailer in the world in the past two years.
