Institute of Fundraising gives evidence for draft Charities Bill
The Institute of Fundraising has today submitted written evidence to the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Draft Charities Bill for England and Wales.
The evidence covers public collections, the reserve powers for the Secretary of State to introduce statutory regulation of fundraising if self-regulation does not work and the proposed changes to the statements made by commercial participators and professional fundraisers.
Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive of the Institute, said: “Much of the draft Bill is practicable and sensible. However, there are certain points that need clarification or further consultation with the sector, such as notification periods for house to house collections and the commercial participator’s statement. We are also asking the Joint Committee to ensure that an accessible, fully consolidated version of the Bill is produced as the current draft is difficult to understand.”

The two documents submitted to the Joint Committee are available on the Institute’s Web site. The documents are ‘The Institute of Fundraising’s Submission on Charity Bill’ which covers self-regulation and commercial participators; and ‘The Institute of Fundraising’s Submission on Public Collections’ which covers public collections only.
