Groundspring.org offers free guide to online fundraising

US non-profit Groundspring is offering its 100-page guide to online fundraising at no charge.

Groundspring.org’s ‘Online Fundraising Handbook’ is a guide to “making the most of the Web and email to raise more money online.” It is the handout that was given to delegates at Groundspring’s series of training workshops to American non-profits during 2002. So it is not up-to-date.

Nevertheless, it is packed with practical advice from some old hands at online fundraising, including Donordigital’s Nick Allen. There are a good number of case studies, plus useful documents such as sample budget and a sample online fundraising strategy.

The handbook’s chapters cover:

The guide is not entirely supplier independent since it details Groundspring.org’s DonateNow and EmailNow services. Still, the level of detail offered compensates for that.

Experienced online fundraisers might not find too much they didn’t know already, but for those fairly new to the sector this proves a very useful introduction. It’s US-focused of course, given that Groundspring’s training courses were held in the USA, and sometimes focused specifically on San Francisco and the Bay area. Still, much of the advice applies to online fundraising in other countries.
