Nearly half of UK homes have Internet access

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reports that 45% of British households have Internet access, a 6% increase on the previous year’s figure.
The ONS reports that 11.4 million UK households had Internet access at home in the fourth quarter of 2002. In addition, 62% of adults had accessed the Internet at some time. For those aged 16-24 the access figure was 95%.
Forty five per cent of people aged 55-64 had accessed the Internet, while 15% of those aged 65 or over had been online.
While 15% is quite low, given the return on investment marketing for legacies, it would suggest that the Internet should play a role in charities’ legacy marketing.

Thirty eight per cent of British adults had never accessed the Internet. Nearly half said that they weren’t interested in technology, but 30% said they had no means of getting online.
