Click-to-give site aquaplastics.org raises €150,000 for WaterAid

The click-to-give fundraising Web site aquaplastics.org has reached its target of 1.5 million clicks in less than three months, generating a donation of €150,000 (around £103,700) for WaterAid’s water projects in Africa.

The money from the site, which has been donated by the European plastics industry, will be put towards several projects, including the supply of clean water, sanitation and hygiene in the Plateau and Bauchi states of Nigeria.

The Web site was launched in March 2003 by the European plastics industry through the Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME). The organisation pledged to donate 10 cents for every click.

This click-to-give success follows that of Givewater.org, a similar collaboration between WaterAid and Thames Water. WaterAid teamed up with APME because plastics play a vital role in helping to preserve and distribute water economically and reliably.

WaterAid Marketing Director, Andrew Cook, says “It is so heartening that this campaign had such a huge response from all over the world. A very heartfelt thank you to all those who clicked every day.”
