Drinks company gave €1 million in Ireland

Diageo Ireland donated over €1 million to charity in Ireland last year.

The drinks company says the money went to charities, community groups and social entrepreneurs. The cornerstone and biggest beneficiary of Diageo’s community investment approach is the Arthur Guinness Fund.

In 2009 the 250th anniversary of the signing of the St. James's Gate lease was marked by the creation of the Fund which supports social entrepreneurs throughout Ireland. Since that time €1.65 million has been invested in the Fund.

Diageo also has a London-based foundation which supports projects overseas in the areas of skills for life, water of life, local communities or disaster relief. The maximum funding available for any one project is £50,000. Payments are made normally over a maximum period of three years.
