Fundraising at Easter
Here are some Easter-related fundraising activities. I’ll try and mention them without saying ‘eggstravaganza’ or ‘cracking’.
1. Environmental charity promotes fair trade for chocolate ingredient
Environmental charity Cool Earth is urging Easter shoppers to support the Ashaninka communities in the Peruvian rainforest in their fight to get a fair price for the world’s most sought after chocolate ingredient, the Criollo bean that grows in their rainforest gardens
By protecting a Cacao Tree for only £1, Easter chocolate lovers have the chance to give their support to the rainforest communities’ struggle for recognition of their world class chocolate ingredient.
2. Giant chocolate egg raffle
Raffle.it is raffling the Hotel Chocolat Giant Milk Chocolate Ostrich Easter Egg Hamper with tickets for £1.

At Raffle.it for every ticket bought 48p goes to the buyer’s chosen cause 40p towards the prize fund and 12p helps cover merchant fees, VAT, hosting, development, marketing and admin.
3. Easter breakfast
International Christian charity Mercy Ships is running the Easter Breakfast Campaign which encourages schools, churches, colleagues and groups across the country to hold their own Easter Breakfasts in the two weeks running up to Easter to help fund the work of the Africa Mercy.
Currently in Sierra Leone, the volunteer crew of the Africa Mercy provides free medical care and humanitarian aid to the poorest countries in Africa and can treat up to 7,000 patients on the ship each year.
4. Celebrity Easter eggs auction
Royal Blind is auctioning a batch of exclusive Easter Eggstravaganza Eggs, signed by celebrities including Stephen Fry, Michael Ball, Ed Miliband, Simon Pegg and Christine Bleakley, on eBay. Each Eggstravaganza Egg contains a gift and has been individually designed and hand-crafted by a team of artistic volunteers.
The fundraising auction was launched live on The Hour on STV on 15 April, and the bidding is live for 10 days.
5. Easter cards
CharityGreetings.com, the charity cards store that promotes fundraising from charity cards throughout the year, is of course enabling charities to raise funds by selling Easter greetings cards.
6. BBC at Easter
Deafness Research UK will benefit from coverage on the BBC at the Easter weekend via the Arena documentary series which will be profiling record producer Sir George Martin CBE, the charity’s vice president.
7. UNICEF Facebook app
UNICEF has developed a Facebook app to encourage people to be a ‘Good Egg’.
8. Giant Cheese Egg – again
Independent cheese producer and milk processor Wyke Farms is auctioning via eBay this year’s Giant Cheaster Egg, made from their Farmhouse Cheddar. The ‘Giant Cheaster Egg’ is two feet tall and made with 157 250g blocks of award winning Wyke Farms cheese. The auction began on 12 April and runs for 10 days.
All money raised will be donated to the Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.
The retail value of the cheese included in the Cheaster Egg is over £230; it is made from the original Ivy Clothier’s 100 year old recipe and matured to perfection for over a year. This is the third year in a row that Wyke Farms have donated and auctioned the Giant Cheaster Egg in aid of charity.
