Cancer Research UK and JustGiving announce 30% increase in Race for Life participants fundraising online in 2011

Technological innovation by JustGiving enables the automatic creation of fundraising pages for the first time
JustGiving and Cancer Research UK announced today that more women than ever before participating in Race for Life 2011 have set up online fundraising pages since the event opened for entries on 17th January. An increase of 30% on the same period in 2010.

For the first time ever, women registering on the Race for Life website can automatically receive a JustGiving page, a seamless process that has led to the massive increase in women fundraising online.

This technological innovation was made possible by JustGiving’s ground-breaking development of ‘APIs’, the web services that enable charities to use JustGiving’s fundraising services and adapt them to their specific needs and brands, easily and effectively.

Jo Warner, Digital Senior Manager of Cancer Research UK said: “We know that the Race for Life participants who choose to fundraise online raise on average 50% more than offline fundraisers. As a result, it has been a high priority for us to make it easier and more tempting than ever before for women to start fundraising online for Race for Life 2011. JustGiving has enabled us to do this by releasing innovative API technology.

“For the first time ever, we have been able to take JustGiving’s page-creation process and embed it in to the Race for Life website. We are thrilled that the numbers from the first five weeks show that more women are fundraising online compared to last year as a result!”

Anne-Marie Huby, MD of JustGiving said: “Opening up the JustGiving platform is a pivotal moment for JustGiving. It means that charities and their agency partners can now integrate our tools seamlessly with their own sites and take advantage of our continued investment in technology and innovation at no extra cost and with no upfront investment. Cancer Research UK’s early success with our APIs shows how innovation can deliver superb results for charities in spite of tough economic conditions.”
