CARE International UK creates microfinance site lendwithcare.org
Aid agency CARE International UK has launched ledwithcare.org, a new peer-to-peer microfinance website called lendwithcare.org, with the aim of giving supporters another way of directly helping people in developing countries.
Visitors are invited to lend from as little as £15 to entrepreneurs in the world’s poorest countries, to help get their business plans off the ground. Contributions are repaid at the end of the loan and, like Kiva.org and Globalgiving.org.uk, there is an option to re-lend your money and invest in another would-be entrepreneur.
CARE International UK Chief Executive, Geoffrey Dennis said: “At CARE we are dedicated to helping people in developing countries transform their own lives. Our innovative solutions have already helped thousands of people – especially vulnerable, marginalised women – to find sustainable ways to earn a decent living.
“But the real potential of microfinance is still to be realised. Most of the world’s poorest families have no access to financial services – and little hope of lifting themselves out of poverty. That’s why CARE set up lendwithcare.org”.
