CRH and Simon Communities initiative hits €906,000 this year

Ireland’s largest company CRH, the building materials company, has announced that it is to donate €906,658 to the Simon Communities of Ireland this year through its workplace safety partnership programme with the homelessness charity.
The CRH Simon Safety Challenge is an all-island initiative that assists in Simon’s work in tackling homelessness both north and south of the border. For every accident free quarter (three months) achieved at any CRH company location across the island of Ireland, a sum of money is donated to the Simon Community operating in that region, up to a maximum of €1 million over the course of the year.
Since the commencement of the partnership in 2007, CRH have donated over €2.5million to the Simon Communities of Ireland and the Simon Community Northern Ireland. In 2009, CRH donated €842,355 to the Simon Communities of Ireland under the initiative. This year’s donation, an increase of €64,303 on last year’s sum reflects the sustained improvement in CRH’s health and safety record over the course of the past twelve months, according to the company.
Jim Farrell, Safety Challenge Coordinator with CRH said: “We place huge importance both on workplace safety and on our continued commitment and innovative approach to corporate social responsibility”.
The companies participating in the Challenge include the building materials providers Roadstone Wood, Northstone as well as Ireland’s largest cement producer Irish Cement Ltd.
