Electricity supplier establishes community fund

Howard Lake | 26 March 2012 | News

One of Northern Ireland’s newest electricity suppliers, Airtricity, has established a Community Fund to support community projects in the areas surrounding its wind farms.
The purpose of the Fund is to strengthen the benefits that wind farm development brings to local communities. The fund is distributed on an annual basis for the lifetime of the wind farm, starting one year after the wind farm starts producing electricity. To be eligible for funding, projects have to be within 12 miles of a wind farm.
The size and value of the fund will vary slightly year on year depending on the electricity produced by the wind farm. The fund will be used to support local community activities with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.
Airtricity say applications will be evaluated “on a competitive basis” and based on the stated company’s values of energy efficiency, sustainability, teamwork, community, service, excellence and safety.
Applications and guidelines can be found on Airtricity’s website. The company’s community liaison officer, Anne Reynolds, can also provide further information on 028 90436886.
