Dravet Syndrome UK announces Sarah Pearce as new Director
Sarah Pearce, formerly MD at Faversham Counselling Service, is joining Dravet Syndrome UK as Director. Pearce has 18 years’ experience in senior management and leadership roles within the Health and Social Care sector. Prior to her role at Faversham Counselling Services, she worked for the Epilepsy Society in a national role as Head of Regional Services throughout England. Previous roles include National Head of Community Services at Mencap. Pearce takes over from Claire Eldred, who has been interim Director since the departure of previous Director, Helen Evans in 2021. Eldred now resumes her position as Head of Marketing and Communications at the charity.

The Vegan Society appoints Steve Hamon as CEO
The Vegan Society has announced the appointment of Steve Hamon as the charity’s Chief Executive Officer. Hamon will take up the post on 1 July. Appointed by The Vegan Society’s Council of Trustees, Hamon is replacing George Gill, who has been acting as Interim CEO since January, while the recruitment process for a new CEO was completed, and who will remain in this role until the end of June. Prior to joining The Vegan Society in 2020 as Head of Business Development and then Head of Commercial Services, Hamon spent 20 years in senior positions in the Testing Inspection & Certification (TIC) Industry, including BSI and Intertek PLC.
Stephen Edwards takes up permanent CEO role at Living Streets
Stephen Edwards has been appointed Chief Executive of Living Streets. He has been acting as Interim CEO since July 2021 and takes up the permanent post from 11 April. Edwards joined Living Streets in 2018, bringing a wealth of public affairs experience having spent 18 years advising charities, companies and trade associations on their public relations and communications strategies. He is currently Chair of Governors at a North London Primary School and Trustee of a number of small charities. During his time as Interim CEO, the charity has seen investment in its work in Scotland double; additional funding for its walk to school programme in England; and changes to the Highway Code to put pedestrians at the top of a new road user hierarchy rolled out across Great Britain.
Nigel Patrick joins The Kirkwood as Business Development Manager
The Kirkwood have announced that the current Mayor of Kirklees, Nigel Patrick, is joining the team as Business Development Manager, to nurture and develop relationships between the charity and its network of supporters. Having served as a councillor for two decades, Patrick was appointed Mayor of Kirklees in May 2021. In his new role, he will be responsible for driving corporate sponsorship opportunities with businesses and organisations across the borough and will also be looking at new ways to build long-term relationships with partners in Kirklees.
Carrie Stokes takes over as Chair of Trustees at Turn2us
Turn2us has appointed a new Chair of Trustees. Carrie Stokes takes over the helm of the charity’s board from Sally O’Sullivan, who steps down after 12 years as a trustee, the last five of which were as Chair of Trustees. The appointment comes as Turn2us marks its 125th year of tackling poverty and supporting people facing financial insecurity. Sally O’Sullivan joined the Turn2us Board of Trustees in March 2010, became Deputy Chair in 2013, and became Chair in 2017.
Daniel Fluskey starts new role at Chartered Institute of Fundraising
Daniel Fluskey has taken up the role of Director of Policy and Communications at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising. Fluskey was previously the Institute’s Head of Policy and External Affairs, a position he had held since 2013.
David Stockdale steps down as CEO of British Tinnitus Association
The BTA has announced that David Stockdale, the chief executive of the British Tinnitus Association (BTA), will step down from the charity in June 2022 after 12 years at the helm. During his tenure, Stockdale has guided the organisation’s growth from supporting 300,000 people with tinnitus to helping almost 2 million people in the UK each year. He has led the BTA to invest record funding into tinnitus research and the BTA has become one of the leading investors in tinnitus research worldwide.
Catherine Rustomji to head up national charity team at Shakespeare Martineau
Full service law firm Shakespeare Martineau has welcomed specialist partner Catherine Rustomji to head up its national charity team. For more than 20 years, Rustomji has been advising charities, social enterprises and not for profit organisations – specialising in charity law and governance, not for profit legal structures, trustee training and board development. She has joined Shakespeare Martineau after five years as a partner and charities practice head at Browne Jacobson. Prior to this, she worked at DWF, Hempsons, Dickinson Dees and Stone King, and was a charity trustee for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Stone King appoints Rosamund McCarthy Etherington to its charity team
National law firm Stone King has welcomed charity lawyer Rosamund McCarthy Etherington to its Charity team as an Equity Partner. She joins the firm after more than 30 years at Bates Wells and will strengthen Stone King’s team of more than 50 charity lawyers. Her areas of expertise include charity registrations, philanthropy and international foundations; governance and Board reviews; advice on campaigning, political and electoral activities; fundraising advice and agreements and charity mergers. She also has significant experience of advising on Charity Commission investigations, reviews and regulatory compliance.
