Marie Curie Cancer Care and Tesco launch Charity of the Year partnership

Howard Lake | 14 February 2008 | News

Marie Curie Cancer Care and Tesco yesterday launched their Charity of the Year partnership at the flagship Tesco store in Kensington. The partnership, which lasts until 31 December 2008, will see Tesco staff committing to raise funds for their local Marie Curie nursing service.
Under the theme of ‘Providing more nursing care at home’, Tesco staff and customers are aiming to raise £2.5 million to fund an additional 125,000 hours of nursing care for patients and their families in local communities across the UK.
Throughout 2008, Tesco staff will be getting involved in fundraising events in store to raise funds for the charity.
Tesco customers will also be able to raise funds by purchasing selected products in store where a donation is going directly to the charity.
Products available now include:
* Ten pence from every specially-labelled card purchased from the Tesco standard range of Greeting Cards will go to Marie Curie throughout the year
* A donation from the purchase of fresh Speciality daffodils in store will go to the charity
* A Marie Curie Cancer Care spring bouquet is available from Tesco.com with £2 of the purchase price going to Marie Curie
Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Corporate and Legal Affairs Director, Tesco, said: “One of the key attractions of our fundraising campaign is that it is geared towards helping people at a local level. Marie Curie Nurses provide a vital service for terminally ill patients and their families in local communities throughout the UK and I’m sure that our staff and customers will really get behind the campaign”.
Since 1988, Tesco has chosen a different charity every year to be the focus for staff fundraising. The Tesco Charity Trust then adds 20% to all staff fundraising
