RNIB Talk is UK's favourite Lottery-funded charity project

RNIB Talk & Support Telebefriending has been voted the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded Charity/Voluntary project. Set up to counteract the feelings of loneliness and isolation experienced by blind and partially sighted people, the initiative won the title and a £2,000 cash prize at the 2007 National Lottery Awards.
The awards ceremony was shown live on BBC1’s ‘The National Lottery: Big 7’ on 15 September. The show, hosted by Dale Winton and Jenni Falconer, was attended by other celebrity Lottery ambassadors including Elaine Paige, Gary Lineker, Craig Doyle, Mel Sykes, Tiana Benjamin and Dermot Murnaghan.
Julie Polzerova of RNIB Talk & Support Telebefriending accepted the Sunday Mirror’s Best Charity/Voluntary Project award, saying: “This is a great way for us to thank all those who have been involved and helped us to make the most of our Lottery funding”.

RNIB Talk & Support Telebefriending was one of over 640 projects from across the UK to enter the Awards. The Awards are voted for by members of the public and this year 150,000 votes were cast, the most in the four years of the Awards.
Since The National Lottery began in 1994, more than £20 billion has been raised and over 270,000 grants given out across arts, sport, heritage, charities, health, education and the environment.
