Former Guardian Media Group CEO to chair Cancerbackup appeal

Sir Robert Phillis, former chief executive of the Guardian Media Group and current chairman of All3 Media Limited is to chair Cancerbackup’s What Now? appeal, which launches later this year.
The appeal’s foundations are already underway, with the patient information charity winning a communications industry award for its promotional film showing how it helps people affected by cancer. The short film, which will be used to launch the What Now? appeal, received the bronze award in the Best Documentary category of the International Visual Communication Association awards, which promotes best practice for the corporate and public sector communications industry.
Sir Robert Phillis, said: “Cancerbackup was of enormous help to me and my family and friends during my own encounter with cancer during the past two years. I know first hand how vital these services are, and am delighted to be able to help to extend the work of such a committed team of dedicated people”

Sir Robert’s appeal committee includes Sir James Crosby, the senior independent director at ITV Plc, Sir Keith Mills, creator of the loyalty scheme Air Miles and the chief executive of Britain’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics, Peter Caplan, Chairman of Fibrespan and Cancerbackup trustee, Karen Earl, managing director of specialist sponsorship consultancy Karen Earl Sponsorships, Dawn Airey, the broadcasting executive and Paul Roy, the Chairman of NewSmith Financial Solutions and formerly President of Merrill Lynch’s Global Markets and Investment Banking division (“GMI”).
