Charity swipes left on Tinder Foundation to become Good Things Foundation
Digital inclusion charity Tinder Foundation been renamed Good Things Foundation to avoid confusion with the Tinder dating app.
The charity’s announcement of the change referred to the other Tinder and its left/right swiping process by explaining that the charity was “swiping left on ‘Tinder Foundation'”.
Chief Executive Helen Milner explained:
“Now it’s time to be clearer about who we are – and who we’re not. It’s been fun at times to break the ice with: “No, not that Tinder.” But the confusion hasn’t helped us connect with everyone in the right way! Partnerships are key to what we do, and how we can do more of it, so we needed a name that spoke more clearly about our role and vision.”
Under its new name the Sheffield-based charity will focus not just on digital skills and inclusion, but more broadly on the impact technology can have on solving some of the most pressing social challenges facing the UK.
Over the past 10 years Good Things Foundation has supported over two million people to take their first steps with digital tools through its network of 5,000 community-based UK online centres and Learn My Way learning platform. Indeed, it will rename the centres as the Online Centres Network.

“From talking to members of the network, and other partners who value them so highly, it’s become clear that being part of a ‘network’ is the key element in what makes the Online Centres Network so successful – sharing ambitions and challenges, and working together to achieve a common aim.”
It also runs the Community How To site and Digital Housing Hub.
Second name change
In fact this is the organisation’s second name change. In July 2013 it changed its original name from the Online Centres Foundation to the Tinder Foundation.
