Crowdfunder & London Sport initiative to boost grassroot sports

Crowdfunder and London Sport have partnered in a pilot initiative to give grassroots sport in the capital greater resources.
The two are looking to bring over £40,000 into grassroots physical activity and sport projects aimed at getting more Londoners to be physically active, with the Most Active City pilot supporting nine grassroots sport projects across London that are looking to raise funds ranging from £500 to £11,000. The projects selected by London Sport to be involved in the pilot will also receive tailored mentoring and guidance to help with their fundraising campaigns.
The projects have a one-month fundraising window, until 17th November, in which to reach their project targets, with London Sport and Crowdfunder both providing on-going support throughout the pilot.
As well as the money raised through direct crowdfunding, the projects will be vying for two additional awards of £2,500 from London Sport, one for the project which raises the most funds and the other for the project which demonstrates the most creative approach to attracting supporters.
Caroline Brooks, funding and facilities manager, London Sport said:
“Securing resources is one of the biggest challenges faced by grassroots sport, and this pilot will go a long way to demonstrating the new ways that creative approaches can help to improve the reach and scope of sport initiatives that can make a real difference to communities throughout London.”
The nine projects involved in the pilot are: KTroo Children’s Boots, Exedia | connecting social media with exercise, Westminster Boating Base sail and kayak boat fund, Finsbury Park Community Sports Hub Refurbishment, 1Life Community Fit Bus, Lloyd Park Under 5s Nature Explorers, Aim High Breaks World Record!, New Equipment for Calypso Gymnastics Club, London School Basketball Leagues & Competitions.
