British Airways raises £12m in five years for Comic Relief
British Airways’ has raised £12 million since 2010 for Comic Relief through its charity partnership, Flying Start.
In the past five years, Flying Start has raised funds by in-flight collections from passengers and by fundraising activities by staff. The partnership has focused on raising funds to enable thousands of children to be vaccinated against malaria and to enable disadvantaged children get into school and learning.
In its first year the partnership raised £1.3 million. A year later it sold a Tracy Emin-designed card for Comic Relief, and in 2013 it hosted a the world record breaking highest concert on board an aircraft for the charity.
Keith Williams, British Airways’ executive chairman, said:
“During my time at British Airways, I have been both inspired and overwhelmed by our colleagues and customers’ commitment and generosity. Whether it’s through donations or participating in a fundraising activity their collective efforts have been remarkable.”
