Howard Lake | 3 September 2015 | News

NCVO is inviting applications for this year’s Winifred Tumid Memorial Prize which was established to recognise and celebrate best practice in charity governance.
It was established in memory of Lady Winifred Tumim who was chair of NCVO from 1996-2001 for her work in improving the quality of charity governance in the UK.
The top prize is £1,000. Second prize is a free place at Evolve 2016 or on one of NCVO’s governance training days; and third prize is copies of NCVO’s publications including its Good Trustee Guide, Charity Handbook, Charity Checklists, and Good Governance: A practical guide for trustees, chairs and CEOs.
All shortlisted applicants receive a free place at the NCVO/BWB Trustee Conference on 2 November 2015. The winners will be announced at the evening drinks reception.

Who can enter?

The award is open to entrants from charities that have headquarters in England (whether or not they operate across the UK), who can demonstrate that “they have used Good Governance: a Code for the Voluntary and Community Sector to improve the effectiveness of their governance and deliver greater public benefit as a charity”.
They can have used the 2005 or 2010 editions of the guide.
The work referred to must have been carried out between April 2014 and March 2015.
Charities can be of any size.
Applications for the Winifred Tumim Memorial Prize must be received by 5pm on 25 September 2015.
