Limbcare uses Onescan for mobile donations
Limbcare, the charity that supports amputees and their families, is the first charity to start accepting donations via mobile payments system Onescan.
Onescan will let the charity receive donations and payments via many different channels – online, at events or from a leaflet or printed advertisement.
To make a donation Limbcare supporters use their mobile phone to scan the Onescan Padlock code which appears on the charity’s website and which will also start appearing on other marketing material including banners, posters and leaflets. The code resembles a QR code.
The first time they do this they will be prompted to enter their payment and other personal information. For future payments and donations this step will not be required. The information is automatically encrypted and protected, say Onescan.
The benefit to supporters is that they don’t have to remember a password or login details each time they use Onescan to pay or donate.
The donation process includes the option to make a donation via Gift Aid. Currently the app accepts single donations but an updated version of the app should include a regular giving option.
Anonymous donations are not yet possible, but the next release will “allow the donor to set a privacy flag to ensure their details are kept confidential by the charity”.

After scanning the code, users can choose the amount they wish to donate, and then confirm the transaction. Onescan takes care of the payment and sends an email to confirm the transaction.
Limbcare receives the payment as soon as it has cleared the standard payment gateway.
Onescan charges 1.5% on transactions, or 15p for every £10 donated.
Ray Edwards MBE, founder of Limbcare, said:
“Onescan is great for us. We know that people need to find it easy to donate – if we’ve spoken to them, at an event for example, they want to donate there and then – not have to remember to do it when they get home. So this mobile phone solution from Onescan is perfect.”
The campaign on Limbcare’s website has only just gone live so no figures on income are yet available.
