Instant donor recognition

Howard Lake | 12 October 1999 | News

It is essential to thank donors for their gifts, and it makes sense to thank them as soon as possible. The immediacy of online donations offers an immediate response and acknowledgement. Such a facility is about to launch at the Arizona State University. From 1 November they will start offering a “scrolling honour role of donors” at their Web site.

Scott Sheldon, Director of Development and Outreach at the ASU College of Extended Education explained: “As soon as you make a gift via the web your name appears at the top of our current on-line honor roll of donors. As each new gift comes in your name drops down the list. You can get back on top if you wish by making an additional gift.”Sheldon calls this facility “”instant stewardship” since you receive public recognition seconds after you make the gift.”He plans to enhance the system so that Verisign will approve donors credit cards in real time, “and your gift rolls into the correct account in the University all at the same time.”

Sheldon announced his plans on Michael Gilbert’s Online Fundraising discussion list.
