BBC Children in Need 2014 raises £32.6m
The BBC Children in Need total stands at a record £32,620,469, following six and a half hours of live TV. This surpasses last year’s total which then was a record £31.1 million.
The annual BBC One show was hosted throughout by Sir Terry Wogan with co-presenters Tess Daly, Fearne Cotton, Rochelle Humes, and Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw.
Performances on the night
The evening of entertainment saw performances from One Direction, BoyZone, a reformed S Club 7, Donny Osmond, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, and The Script, and from the cast of EastEnders, the musical Made in Dagenham, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
There were also performances of the Official BBC Children in Need single ‘Wake Me Up’ by Gareth Malone’s AllStar Choir, and of the BBC Music cover of ‘God Only Knows‘, proceeds of which are benefiting Children in Need.

Types of fundraising
BBC Radio 2’s listeners contributed over £6m towards the total through a series of online auctions and a quiz night, and events such as performance of West End musical Matilda.
BBC’s The One Show once again hosted a sponsored rickshaw ride, travelling 450 miles from Salford to Walford (fictional home of EastEnders) during the week, and raising over £2.6m.
The whole campaign, the theme of which was ‘Be a Hero’, had already been boosted by a number of earlier programmes including The Great British Sewing Bee.
There was also extensive corporate support from companies including Debenhams, B&Q, Boots, The Post Office and BT.
Members of the public were encouraged to go ‘barefaced’ (or rather ‘bearfaced’ given it was in aid of Pudsey) by removing all their makeup and sharing a selfie of the result, with a little Pudsey sticker on their cheek.
