Sense confident of £1 million total from London Marathon

National deafblind charity Sense, one of the official charities of this year’s Flora London Marathon, expects to have raised £1 million through the event.

The charity had one of the biggest teams of runners in this year’s marathon: its 650 runners included ex-England manager Graham Taylor, Matrix Reloaded star Adrian Rayment, Major Charles Ingram and Sky Sports presenter Ian Payne. Fancy dress costumes ranged from a giant centipede and a bumblebee to a padded fat lady in a bikini.

Two of the charity’s senior managers – director of fundraising Paul Amadi and director of children and adult services Ges Roulstone – were among those who crossed the finish line, along with fellow staff members Stephanie Kitchen and Gary Hopkins. Students on the MBA course at the Cranfield School of Management ran for the charity dressed as a giant centipede.

They were joined on the 26.2 mile course by five people with Usher Syndrome, a genetic condition that means they are born deaf or hard of hearing, then gradually start to lose their sight as they get older.
