Toy retailer raises £100k in microdonations for hospital charity

Howard Lake | 5 September 2014 | News

Independent toy retailer The Entertainer has now raised £100,000 in microdonations for Bristol Children’s Hospital charity, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal. In total it has raised £500,000 via the same method for six children’s hospitals across the UK.
All the money came from individual donations of less than one pound made by customers topping up their purchase using ‘digital charity box’ service Pennies, run by registered charity The Pennies Foundation.
The Entertainer started generating microdonations via Pennies in 2011. It was the first high street store to do so.
Gary Grant, The Entertainer owner, said:

“We have been working with Pennies for around 3 years and have been delighted and amazed by both the total amount of money that can be amassed by donations averaging 29p and the willingness of customers to give – we receive many positive comments from customers about the Pennies initiative”.

“To raise so much money in just a few years and from lots of small donations, is fantastic! The £100,000 raised for the Grand Appeal, will help provide the best care and facilities for thousands of young patients in Bristol and throughout the region.”
