International development small grants programme opens for Scottish charities

Applications for the second round of funding from the Scottish Government’s International Development Small Grants Programme are now open to Scottish international development organisations.
The fund, administered by Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, will distribute about £500,000 to support projects that help some of the world’s poorest countries and fit within the Scottish Government’s International Development Policy. The first year of the programme made 11 grants totalling £431,279.
There is an option to extend the programme for a third year, involving a similar sum of £500,000, but that has not yet been confirmed.
Mary Craig OBE, Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, said:
“This programme is a great opportunity for smaller International Development Organisations to access funding. This money can fund organisations to look at ways of developing new initiatives, support the delivery of specific projects overseas, or to build the overall capacity of Scottish international development organisations and their partners.”
Eligibility
To be eligible for funding, projects must:

- focus on one of the Scottish Government’s priority countries
- contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (and the post-2015 Framework in due course)
- alleviate poverty and promote economic growth in the priority countries of Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Indian States of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa.
- be an incorporated not-for-profit organisation with a presence in Scotland
- have an annual turnover of less than £150,000
There are three types of grants available: project, feasibility and capacity building.
Applications to Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland must be received by 26 November 2014. Recipients will be announced in early March 2014.

The Network of International Development Organisations in Scotland (NIDOS) and Scotland Malawi Partnership (SMP) are both running events to help organisations understand if their work is eligible. They can also advise on developing strong applications.
