The Philanthropy Journal Alert reports on two Internet-based fundraising projects. The Children’s Miracle Network is running an Internet chat session as part of its telethon over the weekend. It is believed that the event will be “the largest-ever charitable electronic-commerce project.” During the telethon viewers will be able to chat with other viewers and with the TV stars taking part.

Meanwhile Olympic cycling champion Lance Armstrong is raising funds online for cancer research. After fighting testicular cancer himself, the cyclist has returned to professional racing and is raising money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Visitors can learn about cancer and about how to make donations online. Sprint has already donated $100,000 to the Foundation as part of the fundraising.
