Crisis secures Millennium Dome for homeless people at Christmas

Howard Lake | 10 December 2004 | News

This Christmas, London’s Millennium Dome will for the first time be turned into a hostel for homeless people to be run by national homelessness charity Crisis.

Crisis have found an excellent use for the Millennium Dome in Greenwich: it will be the main venue for this year’s Crisis Open Christmas and serve as temporary home to some of London’s homeless people.

One of London’s most expensive buildings will therefore be used to house some of its most disadvantaged people.

Crisis will be launching its ‘Be Inspired’ careers and training fair at the Dome. Homeless people will be able to take part in workshops from plumbing to IT and art to basic numeracy. The charity is even referring to the service as its ‘Be Inspired zone’, a reference to the zones that made up the Millennium exhibition that the Dome was originally created for.

Shaks Ghosh, Chief Executive of Crisis said: “The Dome was designed to be a building that inspired people. This Christmas it will inspire homeless people to rebuild their lives.”

Crisis will also operate five other venues around London from 23 to 30 December.
