Co-operative Bank raises £300,000 from spare holiday change

Howard Lake | 10 October 2002 | News

Co-operative Bank customers have helped turn left over holiday change into just under £300,000 for Christian Aid.

The bank and the charity began encouraging customers and supporters to hand in obsolete foreign currency over the counter at Co-operative Bank branches and the charity’s area offices in October 2001. The amount of money raised is more than double the original target.

Nick Websdell, Business Advisor, Co-operative and Sector Development, said: “There has been a degree of negative reporting that foreign currency appeals were not doing well, but we have proved that these appeals can work, despite having a much smaller branch network compared to many of our high street rivals.”
