Story of the postcode on Radio 4 tomorrow

Howard Lake | 5 December 2004 | News

BBC Radio 4 tomorrow features a programme about the development of the post code into an essential and ubiquitous marketing tool.

BBC Radio 4’s Neighbourhood Watch tomorrow traces the history and impact of the post code, a key tool for many direct marketing fundraisers.

Alan Dein examines how it was introduced by the Post Office 30 years ago in order to speed up mail delivery. Since then the post code has become a powerful marketing tool whereby organisations of all kinds can use it to categorise the UK population according to its spending patterns and consumer profile.
