86% of US nonprofits plan to increase online fundraising, says survey

A survey of US nonprofits by online fundraising company Kintera found that 86% of the respondents plan to increase their web-based fundraising efforts in 2004 compared to 2003 levels.

Of those surveyed, only 6% expected to maintain online fundraising efforts at 2003 levels, with 8% expecting to decrease their online fundraising activity in 2004 compared to 2003.

The poll was conducted online last month by Kintera so the self-selecting participants are unlikely to be representative.

“The Internet has gone from being one of several channels used by nonprofits for fundraising to being – in some cases – the primary vehicle being used to generate donations, says Dr. Harry Gruber, founder and CEO of Kintera, which launched its “software as a service” business in the first quarter of 2001.
