Namibian volunteer group rejects donated Microsoft software as too costly

Howard Lake | 8 November 2002 | News

SchoolNet Namibia argues that free is not always best, particularly if it comes with an unexpected price tag.

SchoolNet Namibia’s founding executive director Joris Komen has written a forceful open letter to Microsoft arguing that the company’s offer of donated software will actually cost the voluntary organisation “more than $24,000.”

This is due to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreements which means that “they are effectively limited to lower quality PC technologies.”
