The average online donation for 200 clients of online fundraising service eTapestry was $133.25, according to research by credit card processing service company IATS. This is 30% higher than the $89.25 average for offline gifts to US non-profits reported in another IATS study.

IATS, part of the Ticketmaster compoany, analysed the online donations handed during 2004 by 200 nonprofits using eTapestry’s software. Over $1 million was handled in 7,500 donations.

As Andrew Mosawi, Director of Nonprofit Services at IATS Ticketmaster, said: “these numbers confirm the belief that online donations are higher than offline ones, and that online fundraising, if implemented correctly, can be an excellent way to raise money.”
