US foundations' drop in asset income

Howard Lake | 20 February 2001 | News

Major US grant-making foundations have reported drops in their asset income, which could result in them maintaining or reducing their levels of funding to charities. Around half of 142 foundations surveyed by the Chronicle of Philanthropy stated that their assets had dropped over the past year.

This, the first decline in ten years, is attributed to the drop in hi-tech share prices.
