TV celebrity Dale Winton is criticised in today’s Guardian for taking a reported fee of £90,000 for hosting a series of programme’s promoting Comic Relief. The charity usually and famously succeeds in persuading all suppliers and participants to donate their time and services at no charge.
Although The Guardian featured comments from charity staff about the willingness of most celebrities to waive a fee when working for charity, Mr Winton does seem to have been a little unfortunate in being singled out for criticism. He is hosting a series of five programmes of a quiz show which will promote Comic Relief in the run-up to the event.
