WH Smith has joined the likes of Dixons’, Tesco and Virgin in offering a free Internet access service.

WH Smith has joined the likes of Dixons’, Tesco and Virgin in offering a free Internet access service. WHSmith Online is launched today. Unlike some free access providers it charges 50p for the CD-ROM of necessary software. The company “plans to donate the 50p fee to educational charities”, according to The Independent. WH Smith says the proceeds will be used “to promote literacy in the UK through the Ready, Steady, Read programme.”
