Lidl shoppers raise £481,000 for NSPCC Childline through Pennies micro-donations
Lidl GB has raised over £481,000 for the NSPCC’s Childline service through the Pennies micro-donation scheme at its checkouts. This takes its total fundraising through the initiative past £1 million since it launched.
Lidl became the first supermarket to roll out Pennies nationwide, allowing customers to donate up to 30p per transaction via card readers at checkout. The scheme complements existing in-store NSPCC donation tins and is designed to turn small, frictionless contributions into meaningful sums at scale.
Ryan McDonnell, CEO at Lidl GB, said: “During a visit to Childline’s offices, I was able to see first-hand the impact micro donations can make to children across the country. I’d like to thank everyone who has made this possible, to our customers for their generosity and to our colleagues for continuing to champion our partnership nationwide.”

Lidl has also set a new target to raise a further £5 million by 2030, which would help fund Childline’s overnight Twilight service and more than double its reach to over 100,000 contacts with children and young people each year.
Chris Sherwood, CEO at NSPCC, said: “Every day, we witness how small acts of kindness can create extraordinary change. The generosity shown through micro-donations doesn’t just fund our work — it fuels hope for children who need it most.”
Lidl GB has been a corporate partner of the NSPCC since 2017, raising over £10 million in total through colleague and customer fundraising, corporate sponsorship, and events.
Pennies is the digital charity box, enabling businesses to offer customers the option to donate small amounts at the point of payment.
