The Government has issued advice for individuals and businesses wanting to help people in Gaza, recommending cash donations over goods.

With delivering aid into Gaza complex and reliant on the Rafah border crossing, it recommends donating through emergency response appeal mechanisms, such as the appeal by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA) and the British Red Cross, or through other trusted aid organisations.

Charities that have launched appeals also include ActionAid UK, Save the Children UK, UNICEF UK, Islamic Relief, and Oxfam – more here.

Advice includes checking the charity’s name and registration number using its search the charity register tool, making sure the charity is genuine before giving any financial information, and if in doubt, asking the charity or organisation for more information.

The government has also issued advice for private sector organisations interested in giving in kind donations. In such cases, it says, it encourages them to explore opportunities through any existing partnerships with the UN, the Red Cross or non-governmental organisations that they already have in place. Alternatively it suggests they reach out to established charities registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, Charity Commission for Northern IrelandOffice of the Scottish Charity Regulator and the Fundraising Regulator.
