Grants to support the mutual aid movement, projects addressing the under-representation of BAME people in the arts, and for those testing new ways of measuring civic and community strength are among those on offer.
Grants of up to £5,000 available through Mutual Aid Fund
Changing Ideas is partnering with The Social Change Nest to support the next iteration of the mutual aid movement in the UK post-pandemic.
The grants are for mutual aid groups facing a transition as we emerge from Covid and looking to make changes to adapt to new roles and challenges with an idea that could help them move into the next stage.

Applications are open until 22nd July with mutual aid funding grants of between£1,500 and £5,000 available. Successful grantees will be able to manage their funds through Open Collective, a platform designed to enable transparent money management for community groups.
Kent Community Foundation to host funding event for charities & community groups that haven’t previously received its support
Kent Community Foundation has been funding voluntary organisations across Kent and Medway for over twenty years. Last year they awarded funding of £4m to charities and community groups across the county’s thirteen districts. On 11 July they will be running a special funding morning focused on providing support to new applicants. The event will cover information about current funding available, the application process and guidance on what makes a successful submission for funding.
The event will be held on Monday 11 July between 9.30am and 1pm in The Main Hall, 12 Groom Way, Lenham, Maidstone, ME17 2QT
Natalie Smith, Director of Grants and Impact, Kent Community Foundation, said:
“We often hold funding events, many of which are attended by groups that we have supported but this will be the first time we have held an event only for those organisations who have either unsuccessfully applied previously or have yet to make their first application for financial support. We hope that the event will give the groups plenty of advice to help with subsequent applications and to explain what they may need to put in place before applying for current or future funding. It’s also a great opportunity to network with other charitable organisations.”

Civic Data Innovation Challenge now live & open for applications
The Mayor of London and Impact on Urban Health (IoUH) is inviting individuals and organisations to apply for up to £10,000 in funding and support to test new ways of measuring civic and community strength.
The Civic Data Innovation Challenge seeks to bolster the evidence base that underpins the Civic Strength Index, whilst also strengthening understanding, methods, and ways of working with civic data.
This programme aims to deliver a collaborative, innovation-led approach to supporting the Civic Strength Index. We want to leverage our city’s innovation to support a greater understanding of civic data in London.
Applications are open until 5pm on Friday 2 September and must detail the idea the applicant wants to test through the challenge.
A launch event is taking place on 12 July, and this will be followed by two information sessions in July and August.
Sovereign #iwill Fund offers grants to support youth social action
The newly launched Sovereign #iwill Fund will invest £450k over the next two years in giving young people a voice in their housing and community future.
Sovereign is acting as an #iwill Fund match funder and awarding grants on behalf of the #iwill Fund through the Sovereign #iwill Fund. It has match-funded the #iwill Fund’s £225,000 investment, with the funds to be used to support youth social action.
Grants will be available for organisations to apply for in two £100,000 rounds of funding, with a maximum of £10,000 available per project. Helping to decide who’ll be awarded grants will be Sovereign’s Youth panel, made up of 18-25-year-old Sovereign residents.
The first round of funding launches on Monday 18 July 2022 and closes at midnight on Friday 5 August 2022.
Grants available for projects addressing under-representation of BAME people in the arts
The third grant round of the Austin & Hope Pilkington Trust is open for applications until the end of this month, with a focus on projects and initiatiives working to redress the balance of the under-representation of BAME people in all sections of the arts.
Grants are available for:
- BAME performers
- outreach projects within BAME communities
- initiatives to increase participation with BAME communities
Up to £1,000 is available for charities with a maximum operating income and expenditure of £1mn.
