Suggestion of a commemorative Captain Tom coin leads to ideas for #GiveMoore campaign

Jacob Rees-Mogg MP has suggested that the Royal Mint should consider striking a commemorative coin to celebrate the fundraising achievements of Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Sir Tom, who raised more than £32 million for the NHS during the first Covid-19 lockdown, died on Tuesday.
Raising the issue in Parliament on Thursday, Conservative former minister Caroline Nokes told the Commons: “Captain Sir Tom Moore taught us that tomorrow is a good day”. She invited Mr Rees-Mogg to use his role as Lord President of the Privy Council to approve a proposal for a commemorative coin for Sir Tom. Rees-Mogg said that he would welcome such a proposal from the Royal Mint.

At Prime Minister’s Questions Boris Johnson encouraged the UK to clap for Sir Tom at 6pm on Wednesday in tribute.
The notion of a commemorative coin raises the issue of ongoing fundraising in the name of Captain Tom, perhaps under the title #GiveMoore.
