An intensive one month fundraising campaign by Ulster Bank staff across Northern Ireland has raised £105,000 for locally based depression charity, AWARE.

Throughout June bank staff organised many different events and challenges, from running, cycling and mountain hikes to raffles, afternoon teas, auctions, busking, quizzes and BBQs. Many of the events were based in the bank’s premises and engaged customers.

“I’m incredibly proud of all our staff who have worked so hard to raise this amazing total, said Terry Robb, head of personal banking at the Ulster Bank.

“A big thank-you also to all our customers who really dug deep to help us make a real difference to AWARE. I visited one of their support groups and saw at first hand the fantastic and vital work they do to help people with mental health issues,” Mr Robb said.

On the day of the ‘Big Reveal’ staff were fundraising right up to lunchtime, with senior management staff dishing up breakfasts in the canteen at Ulster Bank’s head offices and Danesfort staff running a car washing enterprise for colleagues.

In addition to fundraising, the partnership initiated important conversations about mental health, with customers chatting to bank staff in what AWARE described as a very open and honest way. Bank staff will also help sustain and grow the charity’s 24 support groups.

Aware, formerly Aware Defeat Depression, last year had an income of £814,000, of which £250,000 was from fundraising.
