The Irish Cancer Society (ICS) raised €27 million in 2017, up from €23 million the year before, boosted by an exceptionally large legacy of €6 million.

Fundraising was significantly increased by the receipt of this major legacy donation.

Irish Cancer Society, one of Ireland’s largest fundraising charities, raises money through national campaigns such as Daffodil Day, Pink, Shave or Dye and Movember, as well as community events like Relay for Life, challenge events and collections, individual giving from regular donors, legacies and special appeals, and corporate partnerships.

Donations and legacies in 2017 totalled €8.8 million, up from €3.5 million, due mostly to the €6 million legacy.

Daffodil Day, which is now sponsored by Boots, was ICS’s largest fundraising event and raised €3.1 million in 2017, slightly up from the year before. The event mobilises over 3000 volunteers throughout Ireland.

Events, corporate relationships and direct marketing in total were down slightly from €10.5 million to €9.5 million. After Daffodil Day, the largest single event is Movember which raised €780,000 in 2017.

Over 25 organisations made the ICS their Charity of the Year Partners for 2017. These included Friends First, Ding, Pat McDonnell Paints, and Slimming World. Companies also support individual care areas of ICS with Medtronic sponsoring the lung cancer campaign, Merck sponsoring the bowel cancer campaign while Roche involved in the Sunsmart campaign.

ICS operates 21 charity shops which brought in €3.8 million, from €3.9 million. Net income was down also, from €986,000 to €813,000.
