About the Fundraising Code of Practice

The Fundraising Code of Practice was originally developed over a number of years by the Institute of Fundraising, with voluntary input from many of its members. It was transferred to the Fundraising Regulator when it took over its regulatory role in July 2016. Its predecessor the Fundraising Standards Board did not have responsibility for the Code.
The Code began life as a series of individual codes covering different methods of fundraising, with new ones being added regularly, such as a code for outdoor fundraising events (2004), workplace giving (2004), and major donor fundraising (2005) with each of them being periodically revised. In 2012 these were consolidated into a single code
The Fundraising Regulator announced a consultation on changes to the Code of Fundraising Practice in February 2017.
