The Community Channel has reached 85% of the £300,000 target needed to keep the channel on air, a week before the final deadline, with more pledges needed.
Last week, the Community Channel announced that it had received a £50,000 pledge from the Big Lottery Fund, bringing the amount raised to £245,000 from 150 investors following an earlier pledge of £150,000 from Sky.
Community Channel launched a crowd-funded community shares scheme to raise new funds and allow supporters to own the channel at the beginning of June. The deadline for the crowdfunding campaign is 17th July and the channel now needs to raise a further £55,000 to meet its target.
Joe Ferns, UK portfolio and knowledge director, Big Lottery Fund, said:
“This innovative model for the first national community-owned TV channel will truly give voice and power to the community. I hope our pledge will encourage everyone across the voluntary sector to help.”
