Cyclists have raised £1m for charities including Cancer Research UK, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Motor Neurone Disease Association and Alzheimer’s Society in June’s London Nightrider event.
1,900 people took part, choosing either a 100km or 60km route, which started and finishing at Lee Valley VeloPark in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The riders started with a lap of the road circuit at the VeloPark with a route designed to take in as many of London’s sights as possible, including Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Houses of Parliament, Little Venice, Albert Hall, The London Eye and The O2.
Among the cyclists, were the ‘Diabetic Dads’: a team of 26 cycling to raise funds for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). So far they have raised more than £13,000 for the charity.
Organised by charity tour operator Classic Tours, this year Nightrider is also taking place in two other cities for the first time: Bristol on 25/36 June and Liverpool on 16/17 July.
