Volunteer filmmakers sought for charity films

Melanie May | 8 February 2016 | News

Media Trust is seeking London-based filmmakers or production companies to volunteer to create a number of short charity films.
The films will be part of the John Lyon’s Charity’s ‘Volunteer Films’ scheme and will be for ten London-based charities that are currently funded by John Lyon’s Charity. The ten charities will be chosen based on which ones have the greatest need for a film promoting their work, based on a set criteria that includes the charity’s identified need, the clarity of the key message, and the potential to illustrate the key message via film. More information on the types of organisation funded by the John Lyon’s Charity can be found on the charity’s grant policy page.
Volunteers are asked to donate their time and expertise to produce a two to three minute film and will receive £1,000 to help cover costs. An approximate commitment of two days shooting and three days editing can be worked around filmmakers’ existing schedules.
Media Trust already produces the Reel Stories series as part of a volunteer filmmaking scheme run in partnership with City Bridge Trust. The latest series premieres on the Community Channel this Tuesday 9th February and features eight short charity films on projects including helping women exit prostitution (Nia), an urban farm (Vauxhall City Farm) providing educational, recreational and therapeutic activities, and a charity (Respond) that helps children and young adults with learning disabilities who have suffered abuse (pictured).
Filmmakers and production companies that are interested in volunteering for the new scheme should contact producer Mairi Ankers at
