GoPro for a Cause to help charities gain promotion and donations

Howard Lake | 24 September 2015 | News

GoPro, the manufacturer of rugged video cameras used to capture often intrepid and dynamic stories, is to help charities around the world with its new GoPro for a Cause programme.
The company will provide non-profits and charities with GoPro cameras, financial support, video producers and content distribution to help them create compelling content. The video content will be posted on GoPro’s social channels as well as its dedicated GoPro for a Cause website.
It describes this as a “platform designed to drive awareness of social causes”. It will have a fundraising element too: the company will match viewer donations to each cause made via its website, “up to a specified amount”.
The aim of GoPro for a Cause is to “create short videos that capture the essence of their cause and motivate people to take action”.

Nick Woodman, Founder and CEO of GoPro, said:

“From the beginning we’ve had a vision to scale GoPro as a platform to inspire. Our goal with GoPro for a Cause is to help social causes inspire a global audience with their stories. The world has given so much to GoPro and we’re excited to give back.”

10 organisations at first

GoPro for a Cause will start by supporting 10 organisations. The first three are St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Mauli Ola and Bicycles Against Poverty.
The programme is then expected to expand. It is open internationally to organisations which have equivalent status to 501(c)3 nonprofits in the USA. In the UK that should include registered charities. Applications are open via GoPro for a Cause.
