Irish dormant accounts fund to distribute €5 million
Five million euro from the Dormant Accounts Fund has been made available to provide a range of supports for disadvantaged groups and local communities.
The Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government (DECLG) together with the Department of Social Protection (DSP) and the Department of Health (DOH) have come together to fund measures to promote youth employment, supports for home carers, capital grants for social enterprises, initiatives to prevent substance misuse and supports for people with disabilities.
The eight new measures will be administered and managed by Pobal who will accept applications from 1st July, with a closing date of 22nd July 2015. Pobal will also be providing a series of four regional pre-application information meetings which will take place during the month of June.
Full details on each of the eight Measures, the online application process, and how to register for the pre-application meetings are available on Pobal’s Dormant Accounts website page.
Funding will be provided at different levels for each measure with social enterprises getting €1 million at the top end and disability and respite at the lower end receiving €335,000 each.
The Dormant Accounts Fund is a scheme for the disbursement of funds that are unlikely to be claimed from accounts in credit institutions in Ireland. The fund is administered under the 2001 Dormant Accounts Act, together with the Unclaimed Life Assurance Policies Act 2003 and the Dormant Accounts (Amendment) Acts.
