Sport NI to spend £17.5m on facilities

Howard Lake | 24 May 2015 | News

Sport Northern Ireland has announced a new plan to invest £17.5 million of its National Lottery funding into sports facility projects over the next five years.
The funding will be allocated to sports organisations who want to improve their facilities and has three strands:
1. Single Facility: single-sport facilities which seek to increase participation within the club structure
2. Multi Facility: multi-sport facilities which seek to increase participation across local communities
3. Performance Facility: performance sport facilities which meet the needs of community participants and high performance athletes within the same multi-sport environment.
Sport Northern Ireland will deliver a number of workshops beginning at the end of May, specifically for the Single Facility strand to support potential applicants through the application process. Details of these workshops are outlined on the Sport NI website.
Speaking about the new Facility Fund, Brian Henning, Sport Northern Ireland Chair said:

“This investment will continue to develop facilities for sporting communities, clubs and athletes and ensure that the people of Northern Ireland can enjoy, engage and excel in sport for many years to come.”
